As of 2025, I am no longer updating this blog. Thanks to all who have read it, and I hope the archives (which span 10 years) will remain a useful resource! Examples of my work published elsewhere are listed on the publications page, which I will try to update periodically.
About Asia Conflict Watch
Asia Conflict Watch is a blog providing analysis of conflict, peacebuilding and post-war issues in the Asia-Pacific. In a saturated media environment, in which conflict narratives are often simplified for a Western audience or subsumed within the bigger picture of geopolitical rivalry, this blog focuses attention on local and national dynamics with the aim of providing context to some of Asia’s more obscure conflicts and disputes.
About the Author
I am a researcher and writer covering insecurity and post-war issues in Southeast Asia, with a particular focus on non-state armed groups and insurgency in the Philippines and southern Thailand contexts. I have also covered these issues in Myanmar and Indonesia, as well as politics and the legacy of unexploded war remnants in the Southeast Asia region more broadly.
Over the past decade, I have been a regular contributor to the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) annual Armed Conflict Survey publication, and other regional and global publications including Asia Sentinel, The Diplomat, World Politics Review, Southeast Asia Globe, and The Japan Times. I am also Editorial and Social Media Coordinator for The Pacific Review journal, based at the University of Warwick.
I was previously Publications Consultant and Editor of the Landmine and Cluster Munition Monitor, which reports on the compliance of states with the 1997 Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention and the 2008 Convention on Cluster Munitions, and conducted research for Action on Armed Violence (AOAV) on IEDs and the use of explosive weapons in populated areas.
